Alfies Golf Society

Alfies Bar played there fourth golf society game on 29th May at La Marquesa near Rojales.Twenty four members turned out on a warm sunny day. The course was in superb condition and had some challenging holes. Everyone enjoyed themselves and returned to Alfies after the game for some food and a presentation. Considering the society was only set up six months ago it already has about forty members and is proveing very popular. Most of them live locally on Playa Golf and it's a great way of meeting other people. The society has agreed to play on the last Thursday of every month at various courses around the Murcia and Alicante area, and there are is no shortage to choose from. Everyone is welcome, if you would like to join contact John On 658 242 910. or E-Mail calandwal@mail.com

San Jose - In Administartion - Builders Insurance still covered

You may find the following thread on the Torrevieja Forum of interest and also may stop a few sleepless nights for those of us with San Jose properties, rather than the unfortunate ones who have paid deposits on other urbanisations who have yet to complete.

Eight 'til' Eight

Ian and Karen opened up their new English Supermarket with a view of offering a selection of items most missed when leaving the UK.

They have expanded their range and now also offer soft scoop ice creams in various flavours... and from experience, It's as good as it gets !!

Coming from a business background they are in an ideal position to build upon their experiences and make this your 'one stop shop' for your convienience..

Great web site for Information on Spain

Joe thought PG3 residents might find the following site of interest. When you sign up you get access to some great free resources including beach and city guides. Dont take our word for it though - take a look for yourself.

Community Library

Gordon has now set up our own community library in the brick building adjacent to the pool..Whilst not a big place it does give the opportunity of creating the library for the benifit of all R3 occupants.

If you have any used books, Cds, or DVD.s and would like to donate them please get in touch...

The library is open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sunday between 1.00pm and 3pm. but can be possibly accessed at other times too..

The idea is to charge a nominal fee ( normally around € 1, per loan ) with any funds going towards items required by the community.

The Dubliner

Heard some good things about the Dubliner bar - looking forward to trying it out when we come out in a few weeks time. Also I am hoping to get the video camera dusted off and try creating a couple of PG3 YouTube postings - please let me know if this will be of interest.

Update

Ric taking it easy before the computers stations get busy.

For those not already a customer, Ric and Tina can be found on the upper floor of our local Commercial Centre and offer much, much more than Post boxes, The Internet, Print / Fax facilities but a range of birthday cards and newspapers and magazines...In fact it would be easier listing just what they don't offer....

Can I add from a personal point of view - they are possibly the nicest couple you could ever wish to meet......

Update

Just an update on the happenings within our community.
The building housing the communal TV is being used to develop a small library so we are looking for anyone wishing to donate books, CD's, DVD's etc., or even shelving / brackets etc.,. A small charge will be levied and any profits will be used for the benifit of the community.

We have notice boards up next to pool now so all community matters will be posted on a regular basis as well as points of interest..

The Aladdin's restaurant is open now on the upper level next to the Post Room.

Playa Golf 111 R2

Took this picture on 2/02/2008 of R2. People are starting to move in and all the the fences have come down from around the site. Most of the builders have now gone. The few that are left are just tidying the place up. We have been informed that R1 has been put on hold.
Alfies bar has now set up a golf society. At a recent meeting it was agreed that they will play on the last Thursday of every month. There are about sixteen of us who have joined to date.
We decided on our last visit to try it without a car. To our surprise we managed very well. We bought everything we needed localy, went for some walks, spent a couple of mornings at the golf range and just chilled out. The weather for January was fantastic most days it was 20 degrees. Looking forward to our next trip at the end of the month.

Friday 1 February 2008

Well we seemed to take over where Sping left off...The " Auld Dubliner" has now opened and is offering possibly the best value along the La Ronde / Aldi 'strip'.

Although the bar is only offering a short menu at the moment, I was informed that the new menu will be up and running within a couple of weeks....We had a couple of snacks and the food was really delicious, ample portions, well presented and at rock bottom prices !!. got to be a success !!
The same owner will be opening the new Alladin restaurant upstairs and next to Ric and Tina's 'Post box' hopefully in three weeks...... I understand the theme here will be something completely different for this area.
The Auld Dubliner seems to tick all the right boxes although in my opinion the bar is far too large and the indoor seating area has had to be restricted because of it !!

So what did you do on your last visit?

Sunset over Torrevieja.

As the posts on this blog are few and far between I thought I would try to get some movement by trying to get some answers to questions that we have so that I could fill in the gaps as to what is going on on Playa golf III.
We were out in January and missed, by one day, the opening of the Irish bar. Do any of you have any comments regarding the new bar as it looked to have a lot of potential as a relaxing place to spend some time?

Last time we were out we heard that there might be a mini bus that stopped by the Aldi store on its rout to Playa Flamenca, has anybody got any information regarding this please. We also have heard that San Jose is putting on hold any further development on PG III plot R1?

We tried some of the bars and restaurants in the area and even though it was January we had a good time. We would recommend this for a night out; Start at the Sunrise restaurant at the end of the Cabo Roig strip, good well presented food and when we were there we ordered from the menu of the day at 19€ each and only paid for one due to an offer they had on (drinks not included). Then, a short drive to Paddy’s Point, just off the La Zenia roundabout, (http://www.paddys-point.com/new/index.php.)
It has entertainment most nights and is a good Lough.

On one of our trips out we went over to San Pedro del Pinatar, there we found a great garden centre. The plants were cheaper than the other garden centres we had visited in the area so now we have a couple of nice palms in the garden.

Recent Developoments

I am not sure if this blog is still active. It's a pity to see it not being used as Barry set it with the intention of it being a focal point for the residents, holidaymakers and those just wanting to keep informed.

For those who haven't been out recently, R2 is now well on the way with most plastered internally and rendered externally. San Jose are just completing the gardens of a couple of show houses but the roads and services are still yet to be completed.

The Dog and Bone closed some time ago and is now a fully operational bar called the 'San Fransisco'.
La Ronda Commercial Centre is expanding with the Superbeam TV shop open next to Rick and Tina's (RT's).

The property office also next to RT's and looking towards the Playa Golf properties closed some time ago and is now well on the way to being refurbished to form a restaurant called 'Alladin's'

'Alfies Bar' incidentally has a large covered in area now, very tastefully done and which has dramatically increased capacity and transformed the whole frontage.
On the ground floor and behind 'Alfies' is the newly opened English Supermarket which provides all the products you most miss from the UK

On the ground floor, the new corner Irish Bar is almost complete and should be open within a couple of weeks and also this week they are forming a large covered area to the Asian Restaurant above.
'The Square' and the 'White Rose' continues to provide meals to a high standard and seem very popular most times of the day.

Latest update

The weather is still kind to us and although trips to the beach are not as frequent, they are still very enjoyable...Early morning dipper along La Zenia beach a few days ago.

All the cables and temporary lighting has now been removed from R3 & R4 and the telegraph poles are due to be taken out within a day or so.

The evenings are very pleasant at the moment and I took this 'over the shoulder' shot as I left the campoamor Golf Club

Sunday 5 August 2007

Having just returned to the UK after a few weeks basking in glorious sunshine I can fully understand why so many people have chosen this part of the Costa Blanca.

There are many more people around Play Golf 3 now. Not just the builders, who seem to be everywhere, but residents, owners and holiday makers....The pool is getting well used and due to it's location, possibly the warmest too.

I think all the units are now up and running on the "Aldi" site and further openings are planned behind Alfie's Bar and upstairs next to the Post Room....Which prompts me to wish Ric and Tina much success with their business...... two of the nicest people you could wish to meet !!

Coming off builders supply.

It looks like San Jose are getting ready to take Playa Golf R3 off builders power supply.
I have been contacted today by our agent asking for the name of our key holders, in order for San Jose to connect the property to the mains electricity provider. This is supposed to happen by the end of the month.
Question is will the town hall turn on the street light too?

More occupants

It seems that a few more of the property sales have been completed as more people are evident around the area.
The new Mercadona at Los Dolcis opened yesterday which now adds to the Lidyl and Bricohouse on the ground floor with a restaurant, gift shop and tobacconist/newspaper shop already open on the first floor. The big new Eroski shopping complex is due to open in a couple of weeks at Punta Prima and the newly built Wok Buffet on the Cabo Roig strip is almost finished too !
Nearer to 'home' and on our Urb, the White Rose restaurant is busy and they have already extended their opening hours and employed more staff...little wonder really as their service and meals are first class...
Ric and Tina, our friendly, neighbourhood newsagents upstairs, have extended their range of goods and services and offer more newspapers, cards, magazines than ever..and their hospitality and friendliness has to be believed...( one sugar in mine please, Tina !! )
Nice to see that Barry was able to promote Gordon's efforts with the charity events at Alfie's, as I know he had trouble getting logged on...as I did too !

San Jose fight back

Following a recent protest by many PG3 - R3 residents about the lack of plants around the pool area, San Jose appear to have wanted the last laugh when they decided to plant the mother of all palm trees in the communual pool area.

Eduardo's La Finca Eduardos Restaurant, which is a top class restaurant set in its tranquil environment. This venue is only a short stroll from Player Golf 3 and a must when visiting

An early morning beach shot .

Beaches

There are many excellent beaches within a 10 minute drive of Playa Golf 3. The majority of the beaches have small bars on the beaches with toilets close by. Most beaches also have good local bars and restaurants very close by.

The following are the best local beaches

  • Campoamor

  • Cabo Roig

  • Playa Flaminca

  • La Zenia (water sports beach), strong undercurrents – watch children

  • Mil Palmeras (nice safe beach with good choice of places for lunch)

  • Punta Prima

  • Torrevieja beaches

  • Mar Menor (inland sea)

  • Guardamer
